Earn money at home growing plants and flowers

Growing plants and flowers in order to sell them is a great way to earn a little extra cash. Even if you don’t have a garden or terrace, don’t let this stop you. Just contact your local council and enquire about renting a plot in an allotment.

Growing plants from seed means that you can start them off indoors. There is no need to buy any special equipment or propagators at this stage. Just keep aside some small fromage frais pots, egg cartons and the like. They will do the job just as well!

You will need to buy some potting soil and some labels otherwise you won’t remember what plants the seedlings are when they start to grow!

Bright windows with sunshine and some cling film to cover the trays of seeds when they are young are ideal for starting the seedlings off. I find that any condensation from the cling film waters the seeds in a natural way and helps them to grow in the warmth that they need.

Once your seedlings have reached maturity then follow the directions of the seed packet and transplant them outside. When the plants are a suitable size and healthy then you can pot them up and sell them.

Where to sell your plants? Place an ad in the local newsagents. Put up a notice in your front garden with a box of plants and prices besides. Rent a market stall, sell your plants at car boot sales, school and local fetes. Contact small businesses and offices, many welcome plants in the work place.

Getting started...If you are a complete beginner, pick up some gardening books for useful tips and some encouragement.

Use the Internet for marketing and reach a much larger market. You don’t need to have any HMTL (Hyper Text Markup Language) language to create your own website. With Dreamweaver and FrontPage you can create your own website very easily.

Blogger and Word Press are two examples of blog sites. Within just 5 minutes you can have your own blog site just like this one. Blogger and Word Press have templates and add-ons so you can easily customise your own blog site.

The best way to find virtual customer service work that you can do in the comfort of your own home is to sign up to a website such as Elance.

Earn money from home renting out bikes

If you live in a city or an area of the country that attracts tourists or day trippers then you can run a small business from home.
Let’s have a look at a couple of options.  If you have a home that backs onto a beach then what about selling mugs of tea, ice creams, doughnuts and sandwiches.
Bicycle rental is another option.  You can hire out bikes by the hour, day or half day.   If you know of any particularly pleasant bicycle routes then include a map and direct the renters to specific trails or routes.
Be sure to take a deposit or other form of security before you let the bikes go out.   Give the renters a mobile number that they can call for any emergencies or breakdowns.
If a bicycle chain breaks then you may be expected to pick the clients up or deliver a replacement bike.
How much to charge?  Check online or locally for the average going rate.   Also, think about what you can offer your clients that the other providers don’t offer.  Why should people want to rent bikes from you when Fred Blogs down the road also rents bikes?
How will you market your bike rental? Online, business cards, local ads, visit local attractions or retailers and ask if you can leave your business cards.  Contact travel agencies, hotels and guest houses by e.mail with a promotion offer for bike rental..
Use the internet for marketing and by doing so you will be able to reach a much larger market including an overseas market.  You don’t need to have any HMTL (Hyper Text Markup Language) language to make your own website. With both Dreamweaver and FrontPage you can create your own website very easily.
Blogger and Word Press are two examples of blog sites. Within just 5 minutes you can have your own blog site just like this one.  Blogger and Word Press have templates and add-ons so you can customise your own blog site.

How to earn money from photography- Part 1

If you enjoy taking photographs and can take a pretty decent shot, then you can make some extra money from home selling your photographs online. Here we look at stock photographs.
Firstly I suggest that you sign up to a couple of websites from where you can sell your photographs.
Shutter stock, Fotolia and Dreamstime are three examples of sites where you can sell stock photographs. Shutter stock is probably the most popular for both sellers and companies who want to download photographs for their assignments.

You can sell the same photographs on multiple websites as long as you have not chosen to be exclusive to that particular site. If you have signed up to a website on the basis of being exclusive then you must not submit the same photographs to any other agencies/ websites.

What are stock photographs?

Stock photographs are photographs which have already been taken and are being offed for sale or use by anyone. Stock photographs are contrary to photographs that have been commissioned and specifically taken for an assignment by a hired photographer.

Stock photographs are sold to supply agencies and individuals for their own specific uses. Stock photographs are used to fulfil the needs of creative assignments and hence remove the need of hiring a photographer. For example, the photograph that you see on this post has been downloaded from Shutter stock.

For the end user, whether they are an agency or individual, using stock photographs works out much cheaper than commissioning the assignment to photographers. You need photographs of lions in Kenya. Can you imagine the costs involved to send an expedition to Africa for the shots? This is where stock photographs come in handy!

As a supplier or stock photographs, you can’t expect to sell tourist photographs or snap shots. You need to ensure that your photographs are commercially viable. Don’t forget that designers and art directors will be scaling the stock photographs for something that they can use and that catches their eye.
Once you have signed up to sell your photographs online, then you can have a look for the most popular downloads and concentrate on taking photographs for that market.

Photography is an enjoyable way to earn a little extra money at home and build your portfolio at the same time. Additionally, selling stock photographs online means that there are no marketing or start up costs.

Read Stock Photography: Residual Income With Your Digital Camera and start making some money from your hobby.

Earn money at home from your car

Do you have a vintage or custom car?
If you have a vintage or custom car and live in an area with some interesting attractions or in a city with an International airport then city tours and airport picks ups are a way to earn some extra money from home.
Many travellers are looking for something a little different especially if it’s for a special occasion.  What could be more special than being picked up from the airport in a custom car or a drive to see the main attractions in a car that your customers have only dreamed of riding in?
Before you start to make any marketing, check with your car insurance that your existing insurance will cover this usage.  If not then you will need to upgrade your insurance.
How much to charge?  Generally airport transfers/ pickups will be calculated on a one way or round trip basis and not per hour. Take into consideration, waiting time at the airport, the upkeep of the vehicle, petrol, insurance as well as wear and tear.
How will you market yourself? online, business cards, local ads, visit local offices and ask if you can leave your business cards.  Contact travel agencies, hotels and guest houses by e.mail with a promotion offer.
Use the internet for marketing and by doing so you will reach a much larger market including an overseas market.
Through face book you can create your own business page for free.  This is a super way to get noticed!
Working from home does not involve any large start-up costs.
Marketing costs will be low or even free.
How will your customers be able to book? Online?  E-mail? Telephone?
How will you collect payment from your customers? You need to set up a payment method.  Whatever payment method you chose, it must be secure and reliable.
Cheque, postal orders, bank transfers, Pay Pal and credit card payments are options that I shall cover in this blog.  All of these payment methods can be set easily on your website.
Consider that you may not want to take the full payment online.  Will you just take a deposit and the remainder will be paid on the spot?
Collecting date is important.  Get all of the flight details if you are making an airport pick up and remember to check online for the accuracy of the flight details.  Clarify with the customer if there is any discrepancy.   Check the airport website any delays before setting off to pick up your clients.  If there is a flight delay will you charge extra for waiting time?
Don’t forget to have a white board made up- You will need this to write your customers names on when you are waiting for them in the arrivals hall.    Much more professional looking than holding up a piece of paper with your customers name scribbled on.
Testimonials are a great way to get more customers.  Encourage your customers to leave a testimonial on your website or your face book business page.

Earn money at home from vintage tea parties

Do you have an interest in vintage clothes and accessories? How about hosting vintage tea parties! What a fun way to earn some extra money!

Hosting Vintage tea parties is a novel way for your prospective clients to celebrate. Promote baby shower parties, birthdays, hen parties etc. If you have the space then these tea parties can be hosted in your own home or garden. Otherwise you can organise the tea parties in the comfort of your client’s own home.

To start making money from vintage tea parties you will need to have a complete set of vintage accessories, tea cloths, cups, saucers, cake stands, and props. You can pick the things that you need from car book sales, jumbles and second hand shops. Maybe you have some elderly relatives who will be happy to let you have the use of their crockery. You will be expected to serve tea, miniature sandwiches and cakes. Spice up the tea party with a wind up gramophone player and a selection of records from the period.

Add on supplementary services to your tea parties. Costumes for the guests to dress up in. Photography, hair styling and make up. Make sure the guests look the part.

Mrs Beatons home management books were quite a hit in the Victorian times when the institution of afternoon teas became so popular.
So what you are waiting for? There is no time like the present to get started. Check out the Vintage tea party book by Angel Adoree. This book has some great ideas and recipes to get you on your way. Have a look at the contents of the book for yourself...
